I love looking at the richly layered, humorous illustrations, I love reading it out loud and all the voices it allows me to do and I love the way that Alan recasts himself after a dramatic event. The illustrations are bright and colourful, making this a popular choice for bedtime. Very fun and colourful illustrations from the very first page! About his picture book inspiration, Jarvis says, "The way I work is always visual. But after a long day of scaring, Alan likes nothing better than to run a warm mud bath and take out his false teeth, which nobody knows about!

Drawing on his personal grooming skills, Alan becomes a gardener, hairdresser and dentist! My best bit is when he is in the water lying long on his back. All versions of this book ISBN: A goofy comedy of self-discovery, witty, warm-hearted storytelling and bright graphic art will make this and Alan! Alan takes great care of his teeth; he brushes them for at least ten minutes a day so that they look super-sharp and frightening.

Jarvis studied graphic design and previously worked as both a record sleeve designer and an animation director before becoming a children's book illustrator.

Barry did look a sight! A fun book, nicely illustrated by the author and scary enough for the children to enjoy! Each page or double page also has a lot of colour which makes the different animals stand out in each picture and I do like the way that the whole book has a sort of block style images with pen to mark out features, it makes a fun change from illustrations that always have a black outline.

Next morning the animals approached Alan and said they would give him his teeth back on one condition In fact, he "howled and yowled more than all the jungle babies put together.

But after a long day of scaring, Alan likes nothing better than to run a warm mud bath and take out his false teeth, which nobody knows about! I love being scary! Illustrated by Jarvis An alligator who snaps, becomes an alligator who th-naps in this hilarious, heart-warming story of making new friends and discovering who you really are.

Alan is an alligator and comes from a long line of scary alligators. Scaring is the only thing he knows how to do! I absolutely love the story of Alan so I never mind reading this one again and again either! What will Alan do now?

Things take a surprising turn when Barry the beaver stumbles across a dozing Alan and discovers the false teeth when he dives to hide behind a bush.

With conditions of course! It's great fun. Barry steals the teeth, leaving Alan to do his scaring with a wobbly, empty, gaping maw. Can he still be scary without them?

Each morning after polishing his scales, sharpening his nails and brushing his big, sharp teeth, Alan heads into the jungle for a day of scaring.
